School starts!

 And, school started!  Well, 1 month ago school started, in that crazy California timeline where we start 3 weeks before labor day.  Iain is in 10th grade now, so only 3 years left with him at home... eek!

Ria just started 6th grade, which in most of the US is the start of "middle school" or "junior high school" (it's really town by town, lots of towns start in 7th grade).  So, now she's travelling class to class, with 7 different teachers.  She seems to be doing well with it!  She bikes in with William every morning, and I pick her up by bike in the afternoon.  (Iain bikes too, of course!)

Fall 2017 School photos!

Oh dear... 1 year nearly since the last post....its a new school year!  I have posted absolutely nothing since the last school pics.  Ah well.  I am pitiful ;-)

First day of school.... I just could NOT get Iain to smile more than this - he was just not willing to fall for my pitiful little mom tricks, so mild snark on his end, entirely appropriate for a High School Kid!!!  9th grade!  And Ria is in 5th, only one more year of elementary.  Because Iain is standing a bit forward of the gate relative to Ria, he appears slightly taller against the gate, but she's still about 0.5-1" taller.  He's hellish hungry lately, so maybe he'll get a growth spurt and pass her for 1 week somewhere before she passes him again!

This year, good pictures for both kids!  When I first saw Iain's pic in a micro version on his ID card, I thought it was bad, but in full resolution it is just fine (except for the bit where they had stickers on their shirts during Freshman orientation day, and didn't take them off for the pictures!)  Ria looks lovely with her longer hair and beautiful smile.

Here's Iain on his 1st day of Middle School - grade 6!  He is doing GREAT!  The sudden increase of independence really seems to suit him well.

And our "little" girl, ready for her 1st day of 2nd grade (we've decided this shirt looks like fireworks):

OK, they didn't happen at the same time.....

On Monday the kids had their 1st day of school:  Iain in 5th grade, Ria in 1st.  Have a good look at those braces on Iain, because today they came off!  (Yes, he wore his shoes to school, just not for the picture.)

Now, no braces for Iain, and fabulous new glasses for Ria!  (Admittedly, as Iain mentions, Ria's chanelling her inner nerd in this photo, but all members of our family ARE nerds, so that's OK.  Every leaf on every tree is "crispy clear!")   Everyone, BLINK!

School Daze!

School has started....with a Kindergarten girl and a 4th grade boy!

The first 2 days of school Ria ended the day kind of out of sorts, although the teacher said she had great days both days.  Today, day #3, when I picked her up she was RADIANT.  Her smile went from ear to ear.  She was "line leader", and was so proud that when another girl had thought she was line leader, Ria "used her words."  She was on top of the world....and it seems to be going well ;-).  YAY!

Iain, being a typical almost 9 year old, gives me very few nuggets of data, but he does like his new teacher, and he seems pretty happy in class, even though his best friend is in another class.  (We did a bit of pre-thinking, and Iain wrapped his brain around how recess is the only thing that really matters for hanging with friends, so that went better than we expected!)

Hi!

We're back!  School is started, and all is WONDERFUL!

This week is photo time for Mona-free-time.  The increased amout of time for me alone is working out fabulously....I FEEL GREAT!!!  I have lots of energy to do stuff with the kids after school, and i get things done in the morning, and I'm even managing to get started on a bit of exercising and doing my physio exercises!
